Radio on demand
We start with the basic question:What is a podcast? Answer:Talk radio on demand.Well anything nowdays is a podcast but I enjoy mostly talk shows and educational ones.Talk podcasts for me are conversations with people I want to meet but never have the chance to do.Conversations in general is something I do love doing and listen to because in them there is an expression of ideas, thoughts, emotions and inteligence. That’s what make us human I believe. The idea to express ourselves.
Yeah back to podcasts.I am interested in professional or more serious ones.I do watch casual podacsts too with people just talking about random stuff but my thing are podacsts with well known people or very complicated topics.Sometimes these things combined. One of my favourite podcast and the one I have spent most of my free time listening is The Joe Rogan Podcast or as he calls it The Joe Rogan Experience. His style is very casual. He invites people he is interested to talk too. They can be experts in a specific topic but the conversation is very smooth and natural. That is the thing I love most about it.From Elon Musk to a new guy in stand-up,the guest is always new and suprising.
SciTalksGR
Next on the list of my podcasts is SciTalksGR.A greek podcast hosted my 3 brilliants scientists that are both youtubers and science communicators. In the episodes they discuss about the scientific news of the month and also about cultural topics about science.Heavy stuff I know.In some cases they invite ohter scientist to talk about a specific topic related to science. One physicist, one chemist and one astrophysist do make this wonderful trio.I do not call myself a scientist and my knowledge about scientific fields is very limited but these trio have a unique way to captivate your attention being a scientist or not.In addition I do learn a lot stuff about scientific facts which I search for them later in my time.
My own podcast
The more I listen to the Joe Rogan Experience the more I see my personality being shaped and evolve.I know it sounds too much but let me explain. In most episodes Joe invites famous and wealthy people, many of them are well educated but all of them end up forming the same conclusions about life.Whatever the are actors, athletes, comedians, doctors they all want to become better in being a more calm and loving persons than they are today.Hearing that concept from so different people makes me think a lot about my way of living and also my point of living. But the most important part is that it makes me think. The more you think the more alive you are. This bring me to my own podcast “Συνήθεις Ύποπτοι/Usual Suspects” with the help of my great friend Kostas in which we talk about different topics about popular culture subjects such as the movie industry, music culture, technology in videogames and more. The altitude that we have is critical thinking and keeping the conversation as objective as possible. That for me makes you pick up many concepts to think and not just hearing our opinions.
PRAKTIKH SKEPSI
Another podcast i am very fond of is praktikh skepsi (practical thinking). It is a youtube historical channel in which it contains videos mostly about greek history. The owner is a Greco-georgian historian named nikolai nikolayevic and he is molsty objective and informal about history and less about subjective opinions which I truly admire and appreciate. In addition he makes lengthy livestreams analyzing the history of various countries and those streams translate perfectly as podcasts of some sorts. His speech is very digestable and plain because he is passionate on communicating the tough science that is history.I truly evolved my world-wide view by watching and listening his work and i truly admire his love on history and geopolitics.Furthermore I cannot deny my admiration about his love on Greece/Hellas and its culture which he frequently mentions and compares to other nations. -Study,Workout and take care of your mustache.-
Brain Structure
Wow now things are getting really interesting, lets get right into it.So Brain Structure is a podcast of Hideo Kojima.Who? Well he does explain his story in the podcast basically that is the show, the idea is: what it’s in the mind of Hideo. What he likes. Where he gets inspiration. How he became this talented. Ok I will explain of course for some people who do not know who he is.Hideo Kojima is a japanese game director, game designer, writer who is mostly known for the very famous gaming franchise “Metal Gear”.He also worked on other projects Zone of Elders,Policenauts,Lunar Knights,Castlevania:Lost Shadow. His career started at Konami a videogame company from 1987-2015 and now he has his own company “Kojima Productions” under the umbrella of Sony.
A really surprising fact about him is that he is a massive fan of movies. He actually wanted to be a filmmaker. That was his dream. He is still active in the videogame industry and in the podcast he talks about making movies too.Every episode has a topic that he discusses and the concept is more of a intreview. He has a “robot” intreviewer that asks him questions and he answers them.He describes his podcast as a radio show about things he wants to talk about,so the topics on the episodes are all over the place.I wasn’t too familiar with his work for a long time.To be honest I heard of him from everyone but never got the chance to read about him until recently.Yes I haven’t played any of the Metal Gear games to this point and the 20 hours I have on the Metal Gear V:The Phantom Pain really do not count compared to the 300+ hours of gameplay that the games offer.
His influence on the entertainment industry is undenyable and now he is still active and still ambitious to discover new worlds and new places in any artform. The podcast I have to say is kinda hard to get used to because it is dubbed to engilsh, but you have to, because there are many interesting things to think about. His life is truly inspirational alone, being a young child dreaming on becoming a filmmaker, strugling to convince people on his artistic vision, being trapped and manipulated by Konami and the list goes on.He doesn’t talk a lot about his life he mentions facts of it when he has to and he tend to tell his opinion about other things more which is something I really do appreciate even if his life is really fascinating but for me this beautiful human is a really good example of an artist to be inspired of.
